KLANG, Aug 14 — Almost 100 per cent of the adult population in Selangor who registered have received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Based on that development, Selangor Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari expects Covid-19 cases in the state to decrease in September.

“The state government is serious in this matter, so if there are those who are left behind or have not registered (for vaccination), please inform the state assemblyman office.

"We will ask them to get vaccinated, as it can help reduce the cases in the near future. Maybe in September, we can see a different kind of situation,” he said during a handing over of basic food aid programme at the Sentosa state constituency service centre here today.

The programme is done in collaboration with the Selangor Love and Care Welfare Association was also attended by Sentosa state assemblyman Dr Gunaraj George.

Yesterday, Amirudin informed that the number of category three to five Covid-19 cases is expected to decrease by the end of this month or September following the progress of the state’s vaccination rate.

On July 16, he said all citizens of the state who registered would receive at least one dose of the vaccine by August 1.

To speed up the vaccination rate of its population, in June the state government launched the Selangor Vaccination Programme (Selvax) for Industry and Community by focusing on the low-income group, the elderly and industrial workers.

The RM200 million effort is recognised by the Federal government and included in the framework of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Program (PICK).
