SHAH ALAM, Nov 8 — The Selangor Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS) replaced pumps to speed up water drainage, reducing the duration of flash flood overflow in Kampung Melayu Subang after heavy rain yesterday.

Kota Damansara state assemblyman Muhammad Izuan Ahmad Kasim said continuous rainfall, with up to 70mm recorded in one hour, caused river levels to rise again before overflowing into surrounding areas.

Several areas in Kampung Melayu Subang remain affected, particularly low-lying locations, but the flooding was less severe than previous incidents following several improvements.

The Selangor JPS’s pump replacement was among the measures that helped speed up drainage and shorten flooding in affected areas.

“In addition, parts of Jalan Jati and Jalan Rasah were also affected by water overflowing from Section U5, or Jalan Tembusu,” he told Media Selangor.

Izuan urged residents, particularly those living near rivers, to remain vigilant, monitor their surroundings, and keep an eye on their children to prevent untoward incidents.

In a related development, the Selangor JPS is strengthening its flood preparedness by deploying mobile pumps in high-risk areas across the state.

Media Selangor previously reported that 141 mobile water pumps have been deployed at flood-prone locations throughout Selangor, alongside 53 permanent pumps operating as part of preparations for the northeast monsoon.

The department said each mobile pump can pump between 300 and 1,000 litres of water per second, while existing pumps remain stationed in high-risk areas to speed up drainage.

For areas requiring additional assistance, standby pumps can be deployed within three to five hours, depending on the distance, site conditions, and access routes.
