SHAH ALAM, Nov 7 — Unauthorised structures in the Ulu Gombak Forest Reserve, including those built on river reserves, could be demolished if the parties involved fail to vacate the area as ordered.
The Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS) said it would also open an investigation paper into unauthorised resource alteration activities under the LUAS Enactment 1999, particularly the construction of structures within river reserves.
In a statement, LUAS said the move followed the Integrated Forest Enforcement Operation, dubbed ‘Ops Terjah 5’, conducted by the Selangor Forestry Department (JPNS) and relevant agencies yesterday to step up action against encroachment and unauthorised structures within Permanent Forest Reserves.
“The integrated operation aims to strengthen enforcement against structures built without permission within Permanent Forest Reserves, in accordance with the provisions of the National Forestry Act (Adoption) Enactment 1985.
“Following the operation, LUAS will open an investigation paper into offences involving unauthorised resource alteration activities under Section 43(1) of the LUAS Enactment, particularly those involving the construction of structures within river reserve areas,” it said.
Previously, the Gombak District and Land Office issued a Notice of Notification ordering the parties involved to vacate the area.
LUAS said demolition would be carried out based on the findings of a follow-up inspection by JPNS if the parties involved failed to cooperate.
It added that its participation in the operation reflected the state enforcement agencies’ continued commitment to strategic cooperation in ensuring that forest and river reserves remain protected from activities that could harm the ecosystem.
