SHAH ALAM, Nov 6 — The state government has directed all local authorities in Selangor to take immediate enforcement action against unlicensed chicken slaughterhouses.

State executive councillor for Islamic affairs and innovation culture Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah said the decision followed today’s State Executive Council meeting.

Strict action will be taken against slaughterhouses that fail to produce valid local authority licences and do not employ certified slaughterers.

“Enforcement action must be carried out in accordance with the provisions of the law, including ordering the closure of premises and demolishing their structures where necessary.

“This measure is important to prevent non-halal raw chicken supplies from entering the local market, thereby addressing concerns among Muslims in Selangor,” he said in a statement this evening.

As such, Fahmi advised the public to purchase raw chicken or chicken-based food products only from premises holding a valid Malaysia Halal Certification (SPHM) issued by the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM).

He emphasised that SPHM holders are subject to strict requirements, including the obligation to use halal chicken supplies exclusively from legitimate sources.

Consumers can officially check the list and locations of premises holding valid SPHM certification through the Malaysia Halal Portal.

Members of the public with information about suspected illegal chicken slaughterhouses are also urged to report them directly to the nearest local authority or to the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) for further action.

The councillor reiterated that the state government remains committed to ensuring a continuous supply of safe and reasonably priced halal chicken for all Selangor residents.

On Friday (October 30), authorities raided a premises in Puchong and seized more than 6.5 million tonnes of raw chicken for failing to meet halal certification requirements.

The integrated operation was conducted in collaboration with JAIS, JAKIM, the Environment Department, and the Petaling District Health Office.

Also arrested during Ops Taring Chiller were 12 Bangladeshi and Pakistani men suspected of involvement in chicken slaughtering and processing activities at the premises.
