KUALA SELANGOR, Nov 6 — Two development projects spanning about 20 acres near Saujana Aman will be inspected after being identified as contributing to increased water overflow and subsequent flooding in the area.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the two projects, spanning 15 acres and five acres respectively, are believed to be affecting water flow and increasing the risk of flooding that is impacting residents' homes.

“Both the 15-acre and five-acre projects have been identified as contributing to increased water overflow in the area.

“I have observed that there is indeed an overflow issue, and I have requested that immediate action be taken. While some overflow would occur even without these two projects, their presence has exacerbated the situation,” he told the media.

Earlier, Amirudin received a brief update from Kuala Selangor district officer Mohd Raiz Radzuan and relevant technical agencies before visiting a retention pond site at the Universiti Teknologi Mara’s (UiTM) Puncak Alam campus.

He added that the flash floods in Johan Setia, Klang, and areas around Bukit Kucing and Bukit Hijau in Jeram were caused by various factors.

Among the identified causes are development projects involving private developers, water overflow from the West Coast Expressway (WCE), and acts of vandalism at the Sungai Buloh 1 Flood Mitigation Scheme (RTB).

Inspections revealed that several embankment structures at the Sungai Buloh 1 RTB had been lowered from their original specifications, resulting in flooding in the Ijok area.

“There are other locations (struck by flash floods), such as Johan Setia, Parit Mahang, Bukit Kucing, and Bukit Hijau; these involve different sets of issues.

“There are development areas involving developers, spillover effects from the WCE project, and instances of vandalism at the RTB Sungai Buloh 1.

“The embankment there has been lowered, which has become the cause of flooding in Ijok. This is something we need to address; I have requested immediate action, and we will take measures against the illegal operations taking place there,” Amirudin said.
