Flash floods: Three evacuated from Kg Melayu Subang

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 2 — Three victims, including a disabled elderly man and an infant, were evacuated to a temporary relief centre (PPS) after flash floods hit Kampung Melayu Subang this afternoon.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director of operations Ashrul Riezal Asbar said all three victims are sheltering in Dewan Siantan.

He said the department received an emergency call at 5.18pm, and a fire engine from the Bukit Jelutong Fire and Rescue Station arrived on scene at 5.33pm.

“The operations commander reported floodwaters up to waist level along several lanes in Kampung Melayu Subang.

“However, water levels are reported to be receding,” he said in a statement today.

Ashrul Riezal said the flood affected about 92 homes on four roads: Lorong Merbau (30 houses), Jalan Cengal (seven), Jalan Resak (five), and Jalan Jati (50).

He said some residents refused to leave their homes despite being instructed to evacuate by firefighters.

“A search and rescue operation was also conducted to ensure no victims were trapped in the flood,” he said.

Five rescuers and a fire engine were deployed to the scene.
