KUCHING, Oct 23 — The student suspected of attacking a teacher at an international school here on Wednesday is still receiving treatment in hospital.

Sarawak acting police commissioner DCP Saifullizan Ishak said police would continue their investigation, taking into account the suspect's health condition and subject to the advice and assessment of medical officers.

“Police wish to emphasise that the investigation is being conducted professionally, carefully and thoroughly, taking into account all relevant statements and evidence.

“Any further action will be taken based on the facts obtained and the provisions of the law,” he said in a statement today.

Saifullizan said police had so far recorded statements from 24 individuals to assist in the investigation.

“Police take the sensitivities of all parties seriously, particularly the welfare of the victim and the student involved. The public is urged to respect their privacy and refrain from sharing their identities, photographs or personal information, particularly that of minors,” he said.

On October 21, Saifullizan said a female teacher was injured after allegedly being attacked by a Form Four male student at the international school.

The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapons or means, and Section 6(1) of the Explosives Act 1957.
