KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 23 — National shot put star Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli's dominance across three editions of the Asian Para Games finally came to an end at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Games today, as he had to settle for silver in the men's F20 (intellectual impairment) shot put event.
Muhammad Ziyad, who reigned supreme at the 2014 Incheon, 2018 Jakarta-Palembang and 2022 Hangzhou editions, failed to defend his title after managing a throw of 16.61m at the Mizuho Park Athletics Stadium in Nagoya.
The gold medal went to Saudi Arabia's Bader Bin Ali, who produced a powerful throw of 17.08m, breaking Muhammad Ziyad's Games record of 16.94m set in Jakarta in 2018.
Fellow Malaysian Mohamad Aliff Mohamad Awi claimed the bronze medal with a personal-best throw of 14.45m.
Another Malaysian athlete, Muhammad Suhaimi Abdullah, finished fourth with a throw of 13.12m.
