SHAH ALAM, Oct 22 — The state plans to extend its Visit Selangor Year (VSY) campaign to 2027 to strengthen its tourism industry and attract more visitors, said state executive councillor for local government and tourism Dato’ Ng Suee Lim.
He said the proposal was made following positive response to the current campaign, as well as the federal government’s decision to extend the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VM2026) push.
“Next year, Selangor intends to maintain its focus on tourism. We are putting forward this proposal because running Visit Malaysia Year and Visit Selangor Year concurrently has received an encouraging response.
“In line with the decision by the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry and the federal government to extend Visit Malaysia Year, Selangor is also considering an extension of Visit Selangor Year.
“We intend to cover the years 2025, 2026, and 2027 under Visit Selangor Year to keep the focus on the tourism industry. We want Selangor to remain a preferred tourism destination,” he told Media Selangor.
Selangor’s northern corridor will be a key focus next year, as part of efforts to expand the state’s tourism potential, especially through ecotourism and agrotourism. This area boasts various attractions including Bukit Malawati, Sky Mirror, and fireflies in Kuala Selangor’s Kampung Kuantan, as well as Sekinchan’s padi fields, Pantai Redang, and community-based tourism products in Sabak Bernam.
In January, Tourism Selangor announced it would continue VSY in tandem with VM2026 to reinforce the state’s role as one of the country’s primary tourism gateways.
Tourism Selangor chief executive officer Chua Yee Ling previously said this decision follows the impressive performance of VSY2025, which achieved 80 per cent of its eight million visitor target by September last year.
This year, more than 90 tourism events were held almost every week across Selangor covering sectors such as food, culture, lifestyle, the creative industry, agrotourism, and community-based tourism.
Key events set to return include the Selangor Travel Fair, Selangor Mega Food Fest, Selangor Coffee Festival, and Sekinchan Padi Field Festival.
