SHAH ALAM, Oct 19 — The construction of a permanent public market in Sentosa should be considered under Selangor Budget 2027 to meet the needs of residents who currently rely on morning and night markets.
Sentosa assemblyman Dr Gunaraj George said the facility was becoming increasingly necessary amid population growth and rapid development in the area.
"In Sentosa, we generally only have morning and night markets. There is no proper, fully equipped market.
"When I asked the council about this, they told me they were looking for a suitable site, but the main constraint is the lack of available land," he said during Media Selangor's SKOP programme.

According to Dr Gunaraj, the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) has made several open spaces available as an interim measure to allow more morning markets to operate.
However, he stressed that the need for a permanent public market should not be overlooked, given the growing demand from the local community.
"If there is no suitable land available, the state government could consider acquiring land from developers or landowners to enable the construction of a public market, as the facility is greatly needed by the community," he said.
In a related development, Dr Gunaraj also proposed the construction of a police station to improve security in Sentosa.
He said the area currently had only a police beat base with limited personnel, despite growing security needs as the population increases.
"At present, it is only a police beat base, with a limited number of officers.
"I propose that developers undertaking residential or commercial projects in the area help build a police station so that more officers can be stationed in Sentosa," he said.
Dr Gunaraj expressed hope that the proposed public market and police station would be considered under Selangor Budget 2027 to improve public facilities and security for residents.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari is scheduled to table Selangor Budget 2027 at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly on November 13.
