KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 18 — Coordination between agencies, the use of technology, and improvements to transport systems are among the measures being undertaken by Rantaian Mesra Sdn Bhd (RMSB) to strengthen Selangor’s mobility ecosystem.

Its chief executive officer Mohd Ramali Abu Bakar said the Selangor Mobility Symposium (SMS) 2026 served as a platform to bring together agencies, stakeholders, and public transport users to discuss mobility needs comprehensively.

“SMS 2026 aims to bring together agencies and various stakeholders, including government bodies, the local authorities, industry players, operators, and public transport users themselves, so that we can view mobility as a complete journey rather than focusing on just one transport service,” he said.

Ramali was speaking to Media Selangor on the sidelines of the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) 2026 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre yesterday.

He added that SMS 2026 is also intended to encourage more people, particularly in Selangor, to use public transport through coordinated efforts among the relevant parties.

“Everyone needs to discuss and coordinate their efforts to ensure journeys are easier, smoother, and better connected,” Ramali said.

RMSB played a coordinating role in bringing the relevant parties together to identify users’ needs and formulate improvements to enhance the public transport experience.

These efforts included submitting proposals to the local authorities and relevant agencies to improve existing transport facilities and systems in line with users’ needs.

Similarly, technology is a key focus in making it easier for the public to obtain information and access public transport services.

He noted that two initiatives approved for implementation include the Journey Planner and Selangor Mobility Centre, as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s mobility system.

“Implementing these initiatives will naturally take some time. We ask the people of Selangor to look forward to the outcomes of the state government’s plans to establish a smart mobility system that makes travel easier for people throughout the state,” Ramali said.

Technology transfer, training, and expert consultancy services would also enable mobility-related expertise to support improvements to Selangor's transport system.

Cooperation among the relevant parties is essential to ensure mobility planning takes users’ needs into account, as well as connectivity between different transport services.

He said Selangor, Malaysia's largest contributor to gross domestic product (GDP), faces growing mobility demands alongside the expansion of economic activity, employment opportunities, and residential areas.

Therefore, improvements to the mobility system need to begin now to ensure people can continue travelling smoothly and to support the state’s long-term economic growth.

As such, Ramali hopes continued coordination between agencies and the use of technology will help create a more efficient, integrated, and user-friendly mobility ecosystem in Selangor.
