Over 300 turn up for free health checks in Seri Kembangan

SHAH ALAM, Oct 12 — More than 300 residents benefited from the Selangor Saring programme in the Seri Kembangan constituency on Saturday, receiving free health screenings and mental health counselling services.

Seri Kembangan Assemblywoman Wong Siew Ki said the programme particularly benefited B40 households, senior citizens and housewives who rarely had the opportunity to undergo regular health screenings.

She said more than 200 people had registered and booked appointments in advance through the SELangkah app, while another 100 attended as walk-ins.

"Most of those who attended were senior citizens, housewives and women. This is encouraging because people in these groups are often not employed and therefore do not have employers who require them to undergo annual health screenings.

"With the Selangor Saring initiative being held at least once a year in each constituency, they have the opportunity to check their health for free," she told Media Selangor when contacted.

Wong said the programme offered a range of screenings, including eye, ear, physical and dental examinations, blood and urine tests, and breast cancer screenings.

Her office also collaborated with private clinics and doctors to provide free mental health counselling services to visitors.

She said residents requiring further treatment could continue their counselling sessions at the participating clinics.

"For those in the B40 group, the clinics offer free sessions every two weeks, while those who can afford to pay are charged between RM50 and RM100 per session.

"The response to the mental health counselling counter has been very encouraging, showing that public awareness of mental health issues is growing," she said.

Meanwhile, Wong expressed hope that the Selangor Saring programme would continue next year, with a wider range of health screenings to meet residents' needs.

"I hope Selangor Saring will continue next year with more types of screenings, such as bone density tests and screenings for other diseases, for the well-being of Selangor residents," she said.

Selangor Saring is a state government initiative that provides free health screenings to residents to encourage early disease detection and raise awareness of the importance of regular health checks.
