SHAH ALAM, Oct 9 — Parents in Selangor have been urged to comply with the directive to close all schools today due to the haze and await official announcements from their respective schools on learning arrangements.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said parental cooperation was crucial to ensuring compliance with directives issued through circulars by the Selangor State Education Department (JPNS) and Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS).
He said the state government would continue to monitor the situation closely as conditions develop.
"The state government will also continue to seek guidance from the Ministry of Education and relevant federal departments or agencies to facilitate appropriate assistance for teachers, students and parents," he said in a statement today.
Yesterday, all schools under the Ministry of Education (MOE) and educational institutions under JAIS throughout Selangor were ordered to close from today until further notice due to the haze.
In a statement, JPNS said affected schools must implement home-based teaching and learning (PdPR), while teachers and support staff were instructed to work from home, subject to prevailing directives and operational requirements.
The closures followed a decree by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, who expressed concern over the haze situation and emphasised the importance of safeguarding students' safety and health.
Following the decree, MOE announced the closure of educational institutions in affected areas to reduce the risk of students and school staff being exposed to air pollution.
