SHAH ALAM, Oct 11 – Air quality across the country improved today, with 15 monitoring stations recording unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of noon, none of them in Selangor.

According to the API Management System (APIMS) portal, Johan Setia had the highest reading in Selangor at 82, followed by Petaling Jaya (78), Shah Alam (78), Klang (75), Kuala Selangor (68) and Banting (56).

They all fall under the moderate air quality level.

Johor accounted for eight of the unhealthy readings nationwide, including the six highest: Pasir Gudang (178), Larkin (177), Kota Tinggi (165), Tangkak (162), Segamat (161) and Pengerang (159).

Following this, Johor had decided that all schools and educational institutions in the state would remain closed for five more days from October 12-16.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the Klang Valley, only Cheras recorded an unhealthy API reading at 154, while two other stations recorded readings at moderate level: Batu Muda (89) and Putrajaya (75).

Five stations nationwide recorded good air quality readings with Balik Pulau Penang recording the healthiest at 26, followed by Langkawi, Kedah (35), Minden, Penang (41), and Kangar, Perlis (45) and Kulim, Kedah (49).

An API reading of 0 to 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 is moderate, 101 to 200 is unhealthy, 201 to 300 is very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are hazardous.
