SHAH ALAM, Sept 30 — A man assaulted a motorcyclist at a convenience store on Jalan Ismail in Mersing after becoming upset when the sound of the victim’s motorcycle exhaust woke the baby his wife was holding early last Friday.
Mersing district police chief Superintendent Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani said the incident occurred at about 1 am after the suspect, a local man, claimed the victim had overtaken the vehicle he was travelling in before revving his motorcycle loudly, Berita Harian reported.
“The suspect became angry when the exhaust noise woke the baby his wife was carrying, causing the child to cry, before he assaulted the victim, who is also a local man.
“Following the incident, the victim sought treatment at a hospital and was found to have sustained injuries to his left cheek and abdomen,” he said.
Abdul Razak said police became aware of the incident after a one-minute-and-45-second video went viral on social media.
He said an investigation paper was opened under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
“The investigation paper has been completed and referred to the Johor deputy public prosecutor today for further action.
“The suspect has been ordered to be charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code and will be brought before the Mersing Magistrate’s Court today,” he said.
If convicted, the suspect faces up to one year in prison, a maximum fine of RM2,000, or both.
Abdul Razak advised the public not to act on their emotions in ways that could ultimately bring harm to themselves.
