Sepang police trace lorry driver after crash claims two lives

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 29 — The police are tracing the driver of a lorry who allegedly fled the scene after a crash that killed a motorcycle rider and pillion rider at KM1.5 of Jalan Persiaran Timur yesterday.

Sepang district police chief ACP Norhizam Bahaman said the 5pm crash involved a Yamaha Y15ZR motorcycle and a lorry whose registration number and type have yet to be identified.

Initial investigations found that the motorcycle was travelling from Dengkil towards Putrajaya before it was believed to have collided with the lorry's rear.

“Based on information from witnesses at the scene, the lorry was then driven away from the scene,” he said in a statement today.

Norhizam said the motorcycle rider, a local man in his 40s who worked as a technician, sustained serious head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The pillion rider, a local woman in her 30s who worked at a private university, sustained serious injuries to her right leg and was also pronounced dead at the scene.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving resulting in death.

The police have urged witnesses to come forward to assist the investigation, particularly in tracing the lorry driver, and advised the public against speculation that could interfere with the investigation.

Those with information are urged to contact investigating officer Insp Mohamad Fadzil Zainol Abidin at 019-6488474 or 03-87774264.
