SHAH ALAM, Sept 29 — Approximately 2,305 patients have benefited from the Selangor Heart Treatment Scheme (SRJS) since its inception in 2018 until August 31, said state executive councillor for public health and the environment Jamaliah Jamaluddin.
Some 182 patients received assistance under the scheme this year after the state government committed RM5 million to continue SRJS funding.
"SRJS is a public health initiative focusing on critical heart disease treatment assistance, particularly for the low- and middle-income groups," she said in a statement in conjunction with World Heart Day today.
Jamaliah added that the scheme provides financial assistance up to RM50,000 to cover cardiology intervention and heart surgery costs at selected panel hospitals, including the National Heart Institute (IJN), Cardiac Vascular Sentral Kuala Lumpur (CVSKL), Sunway Medical Centre, and UiTM Hospital Puncak Alam.
The assistance enables patients to get early treatment, reducing the risk of serious complications, permanent disability, and death from heart disease.
"This scheme targets households with a monthly income of RM8,000 and below to ensure fair and equitable access to quality healthcare regardless of economic background.
"At the same time, it helps alleviate the financial strain borne by the underprivileged group," she said.
Jamaliah noted that SRJS focuses not only on treatment but also on prevention by organising free health screening programmes periodically.
These programmes allow early detection of heart disease risks, enabling interventions before conditions worsen.
"In conjunction with World Heart Day, the state government reminds the public not to neglect heart health and to take the opportunity to undergo early screening and treatment if they have risk factors or experience related symptoms," she said.
The state government believes these efforts will ease the financial burden on the people and are vital in saving lives and improving the community's quality of life.
Accordingly, eligible Selangor residents are encouraged to make full use of SRJS and get further information at iltizamselangorsihat.com/cvshtml.
