SHAH ALAM, Sept 29 — Assistance for single fathers should be expanded under the Selangor Budget 2027 to ease the burden of managing households and raising children without a partner.
Pandamaran assemblyman Tony Leong Tuck Chee said single fathers shoulder significant responsibilities, particularly as many are also the main breadwinners for their families.
“Many single fathers have come to see me. Single mothers and fathers carry a heavy burden because their spouses may have passed away or left them, leaving them to care for their children.
“I hope the government can consider what more we can offer them to help with their children’s education and their daily lives,” he said recently on Media Selangor’s ‘SKOP Belanjawan Selangor 2027’ programme.

Leong cited the Bantuan Kehidupan Sejahtera Selangor (BINGKAS) programme as one of the state government initiatives that could be strengthened to provide greater support for the group.
Under current eligibility requirements, single fathers are among those who may apply for BINGKAS if they have at least two children or dependants aged 18 and below and meet the stipulated criteria.
Eligible recipients receive RM300 a month through the BINGKAS e-wallet to purchase essential goods and educational and healthcare necessities.
Under the Selangor Budget 2026, the state government also expanded its cost-of-living assistance through several initiatives, including BINGKAS Tambahan (BINGKASAN) and BINGKAS PLUS, while continuing to provide support for vulnerable groups.
