SHAH ALAM, Jan 30 — The residents of Kampung Papan in Pandamaran, Klang, affected by the demolition of their homes, remain hopeful that the impasse can be resolved amicably, said Pandamaran state assemblyman Tony Leong Tuck Chee.

He said they are hoping all decisions will be made officially and in writing to finally put an end to a long-standing problem.

“We are still waiting for good news from the state government and hope it can be expedited. Residents only want an official written confirmation from the state government; that is all.

“To inform you, there are still 44 homes in Kampung Papan that are in the court process, and I have conveyed this message to the Menteri Besar, the state executive councillor for housing, and the state executive councillor for investment,” he told Media Selangor.

Leong added that some affected residents have moved to other areas, while others have rebuilt small rooms on the land as a sign of their refusal to leave Kampung Papan.

Although temporary accommodations at Parklands Bukit Tinggi 3 were offered, they declined, citing that it was too far from their original homes in Kampung Papan.

“In fact, it is not far; only about five kilometres, but they still do not want it. So I am currently discussing with the Klang Royal City Council to help provide housing closer by,” he said.

Last year, 20 houses were evacuated to make way for a developer's project. However, the process turned chaotic when several NGO representatives and residents protested and obstructed the demolition works.

In November, Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said affected Kampung Papan residents would receive affordable housing to be developed by Permodalan Negeri Selangor Berhad (PNSB).

He added that the matter was agreed upon during a meeting after the developer agreed to hand over seven acres of land for a comprehensive development project.
