SERI KEMBANGAN, Sept 28 — The body of the late Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali arrived at Masjid As-Syarif at 2.50pm today.
It is understood that the late Dr Siti's remains will first be washed and shrouded at the mosque before being taken to the prayer hall to allow members of the public to pay their final respects.
According to the schedule, the body of the wife of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will be prayed over after Asar prayers before being taken to Makam Pahlawan, Precinct 20, Putrajaya, for burial.
Earlier, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the government has decided to accord the deceased a state funeral, following her passing this morning.
Masjid As-Syarif began to draw crowds as early as 1pm, including several dignitaries who came to pay their final respects to the late Dr Siti.
The mosque's grounds remained shrouded in grief as her spouse Dr Mahathir was also seen accompanying the body of his beloved wife, despite appearing somewhat frail.
Dr Siti passed away at the age of 100 at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur this morning.
