SERI KEMBANGAN, Sept 28 — Over 2,000 congregants at Masjid As-Syarif took part in the funeral prayers for the late Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali at 5.15pm today.
Imam Danial Hussan led the prayers, with another representative, as the prayers were held in two sessions.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail were among those who attended the funeral prayers.
Earlier, the mosque continued to draw a steady stream of members of the public who took the opportunity to come and pay their final respects.
The remains of the wife of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad were subsequently taken to Makam Pahlawan, Precinct 20, Putrajaya, at 5.20pm for the burial.
It is understood that the late Dr Siti will be laid to rest next to the grave of Datin Seri Endon Mahmood, the first wife of the deceased former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil confirmed this via the Ceremonial and International Secretariat, following the family’s decision to have the late Dr Siti buried at Makam Pahlawan.
Dr Siti passed away at the age of 100 at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur this morning, leaving behind her husband and seven children.
