SUBANG JAYA, Sept 28 — A total of 7,213 students from 78 schools under the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) are benefiting from the Selangor Nutrition (NutriSel) programme this year.
Selangor deputy state secretary (Management) Datuk Amirul Azizan Abd Rahim said the programme would not only help ease household expenses but also support students' ability to focus on their studies.
“I also hope their learning and development can proceed under the best possible conditions,” The Star reported him as saying during the recent symbolic handover ceremony for the NutriSel programme at SMK Puchong.
Running from August to October, the programme provides nutritional assistance to primary and secondary school students from B40 households earning less than RM2,000 a month.
Priority is given to students who are not covered under the Supplementary Food Programme.
At SMK Puchong, 322 students out of 1,796 enrolled pupils from both morning and afternoon sessions are receiving meals through the initiative.
The Selangor government has allocated RM14.4 million for NutriSel this year, with the programme covering 962 selected schools and benefiting an estimated 106,000 students statewide.
NutriSel is part of the Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package and is jointly implemented by the State Economic Planning Unit (UPEN), local authorities, Selangor Education Department and Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS).
The programme also supports the MBSJ Strategic Plan 2026-2030, which includes efforts to improve community well-being and develop human capital.
Also present at the ceremony were Subang Jaya deputy mayor Mohd Zulkurnain Che Ali and Selangor Education Department student development sector deputy director Yusaini Salleh.
