YANIS launches RM5m fundraising campaign for disabled community

SHAH ALAM, Sept 27 — Yayasan Insan Istimewa Selangor (YANIS) has launched 'Galang Dana', a fundraising campaign aiming to collect RM5 million to improve the welfare of and benefit more persons with disabilities in the state.

State executive councillor for women empowerment and welfare Anfaal Saari said the funds would finance and expand the foundation’s flagship programmes, namely YANIS Screening, the ANIS Centre, the Independent Living Support Centre (ILSC) and the Inclusive Development Programme (IDP).

She said the funds would also support the Cerebral Palsy Care Unit (CPCU), Bantuan Rahmah Insan Istimewa Selangor (BRAIS), and help launch new programmes.

In 2025, YANIS spent RM2,787,967 to benefit over 3,000 individuals through various programmes, with the highest expenditures going towards one-off assistance for caregivers of children with special needs, advocacy activities and IDP learning programmes, she said.

"Through this campaign, YANIS aims to significantly expand its reach and increase the number of beneficiaries to create a more inclusive society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive," she said in a statement today.

The campaign was officially announced during the YANIS 2026 Gala Dinner yesterday, which was launched by the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, who is also YANIS royal patron.

Anfaal, who is YANIS chairman, said the foundation expects contributions from various organisations and individuals from all backgrounds, either through financial aid or strategic collaborations, to create a sustainable long-term impact for the disabled community.

She noted that YANIS functions as a unique body capable of delivering targeted services to disabled persons while mobilising stakeholders to build a holistic ecosystem.

"Currently, government agencies focus more on macro policy-making and cash assistance. However, YANIS has the advantage of operating outside the traditional government structure, making it more agile in developing and adopting business models aligned with private sector mindsets at present and in the future.

"This helps us meet the unique business needs and contribution capacities of each strategic partner. Furthermore, partnering with YANIS directly supports the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor's vision and state policies aimed at turning this vision into reality," she said.

Meanwhile, YANIS chief executive officer Kamarul Hisham Yeop Hashim said the foundation's mission aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), particularly quality education, decent work and economic growth, reduced inequalities, and partnerships for the goals.

“Interested individuals or organisations can contact the YANIS 2026 Fundraising Campaign Secretariat to learn more about the Corporate Strategic Partnership Package and discuss potential contributions.”

He added that contributions could be made financially or through Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) collaborations focusing on disabled persons empowerment, skills development, inclusive employment and sustainable social impact.

YANIS is also expected to be recognised as a social enterprise and obtain tax exemption status in 2027.

As a Company Limited by Guarantee (CLBG), YANIS' financial accounts are accessible on the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) portal, providing an additional layer of transparency for stakeholders and the public.
