SHAH ALAM, Sept 26 — The 2027 Selangor Budget for the agriculture sector will adopt a more targeted approach by identifying areas that require additional support.
State executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Dato' Izham Hashim said one area identified as needing greater attention is high-value melon cultivation.
“So we can now see which areas and fields need additional attention in next year’s budget. One example is high-value melon cultivation,” he said.
Izham was speaking to the media following the 2027 Selangor Budget engagement session with Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari at the Selangor International Trade and Exhibition Centre yesterday.
He added that the approach aligns with the state government’s current efforts to focus more specifically on target groups when distributing assistance and support.
It has also been implementing the Agro Transformation Plan for nearly five to six years and is now identifying areas of agriculture that require additional attention.
“At the same time, there are current issues that we need to resolve, as well as outstanding issues, such as matters involving cattle and poultry placement, which we need to address,” Izham said.
The councillor noted that the 2027 Selangor Budget's focus will also take into account employment and assistance for vulnerable and marginalised groups, including farmers, through various initiatives to be implemented by the state government.
Input from a series of engagement sessions with stakeholders will also factor into the state government's decision on which areas to prioritise under the budget.
