SHAH ALAM, Sept 25 — The 2027 Selangor Budget, expected to be tabled in November, will focus on addressing socioeconomic issues, including the welfare of young people and senior citizens.
Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the state government is refining various welfare programmes to ensure every initiative benefits the people.
“There are three approaches that have previously been implemented: cash aid programmes, skills and knowledge enhancement programmes, and support programmes to develop infrastructure such as Senior Citizens Activity Centres (PAWE) and childcare centres.
“These are the three areas highlighted by the Welfare EXCO. We will maintain the financial support and assistance needed by the people, and this is the formula we will use to address hardcore poverty,” he said in his speech during the 2027 Selangor Budget engagement session today.
Earlier, the programme at the Selangor International Trade Centre began with a focus group session involving stakeholders, before the findings were presented in detail to Amirudin.
Meanwhile, he said the state government also aims to help ease pressure on parents through free breakfast assistance for school students and the development of transit centres.
Such initiatives cannot be implemented only through subsidiaries or government-linked companies, as a large proportion of Selangor residents also work in the private sector.
“We must have the integrity and strength to organise the ecosystem, whether through cash assistance such as MamaKerja, support to train and enhance caregivers’ capabilities, or building infrastructure such as PAWE.
“We will compile and coordinate all these efforts in the near future and present them in the budget,” Amirudin said.
Previously, the state government allocated RM3.23 billion under the 2026 Selangor Budget, an increase from RM3 billion in 2025.
Themed ‘Selangor Juara, Rakyat Sejahtera’, the budget allocated RM1.86 billion or 57.6 per cent, for operating expenditure, while RM1.37 billion or 42.4 per cent, was allocated for development expenditure.
