SHAH ALAM, Sept 22 — The haze has cleared across Selangor, with all air quality monitoring stations in the state recording moderate Air Pollutant Index (API) readings at 3pm today.
According to the API Management System (APIMS) portal, the readings in Shah Alam and Johan Setia were both 85, followed by Petaling Jaya (82), Klang (72), Banting (70), and Kuala Selangor (62).
The highest readings nationwide were recorded in Sarawak, with Sibu the highest at 175, followed by Mukah and Sri Aman (both 172) and Sarikei (160).
Meanwhile, four stations nationwide recorded good air quality — Kelantan’s Tanah Merah (41), Perlis’ Kangar (47), Penang’s Balik Pulau (44), and Kedah’s Langkawi (41).
An API reading of 0 to 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 is moderate, 101 to 200 is unhealthy, 201 to 300 is very unhealthy, and 301 and above is hazardous.
API readings in Selangor started improving yesterday after downpours across the Klang Valley, which also caused flash floods in Kuala Lumpur.
“Observations showed that heavy to very heavy rain was recorded across the Klang Valley yesterday afternoon, particularly in the upstream catchment areas of Ampang, Klang Gates Dam and Lembah Keramat in Selangor.
“As of 5.30pm, Lembah Keramat recorded the highest accumulated rainfall at 155.5mm, compared with the usual 30mm,” Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Fadlun Mak Ujud told a press conference in Putrajaya yesterday, according to Bernama.
