SHAH ALAM, Oct 10 — Southern states dominated the country’s highest unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 10am today.
According to the data from the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), four areas in Johor—Batu Pahat (190), Larkin (185), Pasir Gudang (185), and Tangkak (185) recorded the highest API readings.
Seremban and Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, followed closely, at 183 and 179, respectively.
The portal also showed that 33 areas in Johor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Putrajaya, Perak, Penang, Pahang, and Sarawak recorded unhealthy API readings, with Batu Pahat recording the highest at 190—close to a very unhealthy reading.
In Selangor, Shah Alam (168), Johan Setia (166), Petaling Jaya (161), Klang (158), Banting (155), and Kuala Selangor (153) recorded unhealthy API readings.
Meanwhile, 35 areas recorded moderate readings, and no areas recorded healthy or very unhealthy air quality readings.
An API reading of 0 to 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 is moderate, 101 to 200 is unhealthy, 201 to 300 is very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are hazardous.
The public is advised to reduce prolonged outdoor activities and take necessary precautions when air quality deteriorates.
