SHAH ALAM, Sept 22 – The social development in Batu Tiga should be prioritised under the Selangor Budget 2027 as the area has become increasingly saturated, with limited land available for new development.
Batu Tiga assemblyman Danial Al-Rashid Haron said the focus should instead be on upgrading existing facilities, including apartments, surau and mosques that were developed during the early stages of Shah Alam’s development.
“Batu Tiga is already saturated, so I am focusing more on social development.
“We do not have reserve land to build new schools, hospitals or mosques. That is why I also do not look at large-scale infrastructure development,” he said in an interview for the SKOP Selangor Budget 2027 programme produced by Media Selangor recently.
Danial said one of the priorities should be on upgrading the older apartment buildings, most of which are between 30 and 40 years old and require continuous maintenance and improvements.
He said the upgrading works could be carried out through the Ceria Scheme, including improvements to the physical condition of buildings such as repainting, water tanks and roofs.
“For example, through the Ceria Scheme, how can we also improve or upgrade the infrastructure of our apartments, which may be seen as rundown from the outside.
“Perhaps there are also things that we can implement; such as improving the paintwork or water tanks or roofs and so on,” he said.
However, Danial said the upgrading works would need to be carried out in stages due to limited allocations.
“Of course, it is quite impossible to ensure that everything becomes new again because our allocations are also rather limited.
“Every year, I will carry out at least 10 small-scale projects. We will assess each application and try to fulfil them as best as possible,” he said.
He said the approach would not only improve residents’ comfort but also ensure existing facilities remain functional and continue to meet the needs of the community in the long-established area.
