SHAH ALAM, Sept 18 — Police have confirmed the discovery of the body of a second angler who went missing at One Fathom Bank, off the coast of Selangor near Pulau Ketam, in the waters off Hutan Melintang, Perak, yesterday.
North Klang police chief ACP Ramsay Embol said the deceased is believed to be Muhammad Ridzuan Ruhaizat, 37, based on preliminary identification by a family member.
He said the search and rescue (SAR) team was alerted by a fishing boat at about 4.26 pm yesterday to the discovery of a man’s body floating in the waters off Hutan Melintang.
“At 5.05 pm, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Perak vessel KM Nusa arrived at the location and confirmed the discovery of the body.
“Based on preliminary identification by a family member using photographs and the shoes worn by the deceased, the body is believed to be Muhammad Ridzuan, one of the two anglers who remained missing,” he said in a statement today.
Ramsay said the body was taken to Tengku Ampuan Jemaah Hospital (HTAJ) in Sabak Bernam and will be transferred to Sungai Buloh Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
He said the discovery brings the number of anglers accounted for to six out of seven, with four found safe and two confirmed dead.
“One more victim, Raja Mohd Rozi Raja Mahamud, 49, remains missing.
“The fourth day of the SAR operation was suspended at 9 pm yesterday and resumed at 7 am today, involving the police, MMEA, Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Civil Defence Force (APM) and other relevant agencies in efforts to locate the remaining victim,” he said.
On Monday, Selangor MMEA launched a SAR operation after receiving a report at 3.35 am regarding seven anglers who had gone missing at One Fathom Bank.
On the second day of the operation, rescuers found four of the anglers safe in the waters off Sekinchan before taking them to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) and Banting Hospital for further treatment.
On Wednesday, police confirmed the discovery of the body of Mohd Shahril Abd Rahman, 43, in the waters off Hutan Melintang at about 8.30 am.
