SHAH ALAM, Dec 29 — The Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) has agreed to channel up to RM2 million to cover the costs of repair and restoration works to address the electricity disruption at Flat Seri Perantau in Klang, which has persisted for more than three weeks.

State executive councillor for housing and culture Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said the implementation of these works will be coordinated by the state government, including the appointment of contractors.

The decision was made during a special meeting today to identify solutions to the issue, which has affected some 600 residents of Block C at the flat.

“Preliminary findings identified maintenance shortcomings as one of the factors contributing to the fire incident at Block C, which in turn affected the building’s electricity supply system and basic facilities.

“As such, comprehensive and phased measures need to be implemented to ensure that residents’ safety remains the top priority,” he said in a statement.

Apart from the RM2 million allocation, PKNS and Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) are also coordinating corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts through the Caring Government for Residence Improvement Aid (Ceria) scheme.

Additionally, efforts to establish a joint management body (JMB) or management corporation (MC) at Flat Seri Perantau are being expedited to ensure the building is managed more effectively and efficiently.

“The state government will continue to closely monitor developments and work with all relevant parties, including the State Treasury and the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT), to ensure that effective medium- and long-term solutions are implemented in the interest of residents,” said Borhan.

Earlier, in a Facebook post, he said the Selangor government is looking to adopt a CSR-based approach to resolve the ongoing electricity disruption at the flat, and that recovery work will be carried out in stages.

Previously, the media reported that a fire in the flat’s distribution box on December 7 had led to a complete power outage, affecting 128 units in Block C.

Residents have been forced to go through dark nights with small children, elderly relatives, and patients who need medical help, making the situation more dire.

On December 26, Borhan said the issue would be addressed in a special state government meeting, which will include central agencies like TNB, PKNS, the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS), and the Implementing Coordination Unit (ICU).

The session aimed to obtain a clear technical assessment and determine the safest and most effective improvements.
