PUTRAJAYA, Sept 16 – The State Government will examine follow-up measures to address the haze situation in Selangor, including efforts to reduce students' exposure to air pollution.
Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said that the matter would be discussed during the State Executive Council (MMKN) meeting this Friday, following a review of reports from relevant agencies.
"We are monitoring the situation. We have an exco meeting this Friday where we will carefully discuss follow-up measures, as conditions worsened again; particularly yesterday and today; after showing signs of deteriorating on Sunday.
"We will assess the situation on Friday based on reports from all parties," he said when met by the media after officiating the Islamic Book Festival 2026 at Masjid Putra here today.
Amirudin added that the State Government would also obtain information from the Selangor State Health Department (JKNS) before deciding on the necessary measures to be implemented.
He said the condition of students in schools is a key area of concern, given the extended periods they spend in these environments.
"Appropriate measures include providing assistance to schools and managing our children's activities, as they spend a significant amount of time there.
"This also involves limiting outdoor activities to prevent exposure to the haze," he added.
The air quality in Selangor continues to deteriorate, with all six monitoring stations in the state recording Air Pollutant Index (API) readings at unhealthy levels this morning.
Based on the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) as Johan Setia recorded the highest API reading nationwide at 180 as of 6pm today.
Johan Setia was followed by Cheras, Kuala Lumpur (170), Batu Muda, Kuala Lumpur (168), Nilai, Negeri Sembilan (168) and Putrajaya (167) among areas with the highest nationwide readings.
Other areas in Selangor also recorded unhealthy air quality levels, that being Shah Alam (166), Petaling Jaya (161), Klang (158), Banting and Kuala Selangor recorded the same API levels at 156 each.
The State Government had previously announced that monitoring of the haze situation is being carried out continuously in collaboration with the Environment Department (DOE) and relevant agencies.
