SHAH ALAM, Sept 16 – The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) plans to develop five green spaces in Damansara Damai under its People’s Park Landscape Master Plan to expand recreational areas and community facilities.
The five locations are Taman Damai Setia, Taman Damai Utama, Taman Damai Belantara, Taman Damai Puncak and Taman Damai Warisan, The Star reported.
MBPJ Landscape Department director Dr Badrulzaman Jaafar said each park would have a different function and identity to meet the needs of families, young people, children, senior citizens and people with disabilities.
“Taman Damai Setia, or Town Park 1, was the first to open on July 25 after upgrading works were completed. It is located next to the Damansara Damai Community Hall,” he said.
He said Taman Damai Belantara, or Town Park 3, would be developed in stages from next year, subject to MBPJ funding, the tender process and the park’s design.
Badrulzaman said the development of the other three parks, Taman Damai Utama, Taman Damai Puncak and Taman Damai Warisan, would be determined based on MBPJ’s priorities, site conditions, community needs and financial capacity.
“These five parks in Damansara Damai cover a total area of 19.64 hectares, and the sites require upgrading in terms of facilities, maintenance, safety, accessibility and activities.
“Damansara Damai is a densely populated area with 15,579 residential units since its development began around 1998.
“Through this master plan, MBPJ can establish a network of town parks close to residential areas,” he said.
Badrulzaman added that expanding a similar concept to other areas would require a comprehensive study covering site suitability, community needs, land status, development priorities and MBPJ’s financial capacity.
“However, MBPJ continues to upgrade public parks throughout the city from time to time,” he said.
MBPJ is also studying the potential transformation of the Klang and Penchala riverbanks through the Petaling Jaya Landscape Master Plan (PiLAN.PJ).
Badrulzaman said the plan viewed rivers as more than drainage channels, with the potential to serve as ecological corridors, green infrastructure and landscape assets.
“Taman Medan and Sri Manja are among the focus areas, with proposals to connect river reserve zones to residential and commercial areas, Dataran Anak Muda and existing recreational areas.
“Facilities such as pedestrian walkways, cycling lanes, rest areas, lighting systems and directional signage will be provided,” he said.
However, he did not disclose the estimated cost or implementation period for the project, as PiLAN.PJ is a strategic planning document rather than a detailed design or construction contract.
