SHAH ALAM, Sept 14 — The Selangor government has given young climber Muhammad Syahrulnizam Mohd Noor, 22, and his team a special RM38,000 contribution in support of their mission to reach a Mount Everest base camp.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the assistance was a sign of support and motivation for Syahrulnizam and his team as they take on the challenging expedition.

“This contribution will help cover expenses for four to five people out of the total 11 team members.

“It will somewhat ease their financial burden, especially the high costs of permits and expenses during the climb,” he said after presenting the contribution to expedition head Tan Sri Johan Jaaffar at Amirudin’s official residence here today.

The mission is one of Syahrulnizam’s moves to conquer the Mount Everest summit by 2028, by the time he is 24.

Amirudin said he hopes the mission will inspire Selangoreans to embrace challenges and push their limits.

“This is a form of motivation and support, while also showing young people in Malaysia that they can take on challenges.

“I believe it will motivate Selangor residents, particularly youth, to take on challenging endeavours,” he said.

Amirudin noted that the journey to an Everest base camp is not an ordinary one as hikers have to contend with changing weather conditions, the altitude, and various risks throughout the climb.

The 11-member team will start their climb to the Everest base camp on Malaysia Day on Wednesday.
