SHAH ALAM, Sept 11 — The Silver Jubilee celebration marking 25 years of the reign of Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj is scheduled to take place from September 28 to November 1, with 20 programmes and official events lined up for the people.
Selangor state secretary Dato’ Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin said the celebration will cover various areas, including community and religious activities, environmental sustainability, infrastructure development and sports.
The celebrations will be held on a modest scale, in line with the Sultan’s wishes, with an expenditure ceiling of RM12 million.
“To uphold the principles of prudent governance, the state government fully adheres to the Sultan of Selangor’s wishes that the entire celebration be held on a modest, prudent and dignified scale, without any wastage,” he told a press conference at the state State Secretariat Building here today.
Fadzli said the highlight of the celebration will be held on October 25, in conjunction with the 25th anniversary of His Royal Highness’ reign, featuring three main ceremonies.
“The first is the guard of honour inspection ceremony, accompanied by a 21-gun salute.
“The second is the proclamation of titles and oath-taking ceremony, as well as the pledge of allegiance by palace dignitaries and Dato’ Diraja Selangor, and the third is the investiture ceremony for Selangor State Orders and Decorations.”
To enable the people to join in celebrating His Royal Highness’ anniversary, the state government has designated October 25 as a public holiday throughout Selangor.
“As the date falls on a Sunday, the following day, Monday, October 26, will be observed as a replacement public holiday,” he said.
Fadzli said various community and welfare programmes have also been lined up, including an orphan reach-out programme through the Kembara Semenanjung tour, the opening of the Autism-Friendly Park, Larian Kita and the Royal Tea Reception.
He said the Royal Tea Reception will bring together people from every district, with a total of 3,000 invited guests for each session, arranged according to designated segments.
Religious programmes will include Yasin recitations and a thanksgiving prayer ceremony, as well as the Multaqa and Perdana Forum on Islamic Affairs.
To honour the heritage and document the history of His Royal Highness’ reign, several programmes have also been lined up, including the launch of a special letter and stamp, a commemorative coin and the book Menjulang Takhta.
In sports and talent development, programmes include the opening of the Selangor Polo and Equestrian Club, the Sultan of Selangor Jubilee Cup Polo Championship and an Under-15 football league match.
According to Fadzli, several programmes throughout the celebration are also expected to be attended by the Sultan of Selangor and members of the royal family.
The Silver Jubilee celebration will conclude on November 1 with the Istiadat Menjunjung Duli, held in conjunction with the proclamation of titles for palace dignitaries and Dato’ Diraja Selangor, as well as the investiture ceremony for Selangor State Orders and Decorations.
