JAKARTA, Sept 11 — Malaysians planning to travel to Indonesia, particularly via Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, are advised to plan their journeys and regularly check their flight status with their respective airlines.
The Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta said that although Indonesia’s main international gateway resumed operations on September 8, airlines were reportedly still making adjustments to flight schedules and passenger arrangements, particularly for flights departing from Jakarta.
“The Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta continues to monitor the situation involving Malaysians who reported being stranded on September 6 and 7 following the flight disruptions.
“Some of them have informed the embassy that they have safely returned to Malaysia,” the embassy said in a statement last night.
Soekarno-Hatta International Airport and seven other airports, which had been temporarily closed since Sunday due to the threat posed by volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau, reopened on Monday afternoon.
The embassy said Mount Anak Krakatau in Lampung province remained at Level III, the second-highest level in Indonesia’s four-tier volcanic alert system, with authorities continuing to record eruptive activity yesterday.
Other volcanoes reported to be currently active include Mount Ile Lewotolok in East Nusa Tenggara, Mount Ibu in North Maluku and Mount Semeru in East Java.
