SHAH ALAM, Sept 10 — Drawing on his experience completing his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) while serving a prison sentence, inspired Dr Malik Yatam to publish, PhD dari Penjara, a book filled with messages of change and hope.

Malik expressed hope that the book would inspire the public, particularly those facing challenges in life, not to give up on improving themselves.

He said everyone still had the opportunity to change their lives for the better as long as they had the desire and determination to change.

“What I wanted to share through the book is that nothing is impossible, as long that we have the determination to change for the better,” he told Media Selangor.

Malik was speaking to Media Selangor at the launch of PhD dari Penjara, officiated by His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj at the Raja Tun Uda Library (PPAS) here today.

He said his life experiences had also encouraged him to share his story, particularly with those who may feel they have no opportunity to overcome their difficulties.

“When we feel like life has no meaning, or that we are facing a major obstacle, we need to remember and believe that there are other people who are facing worse fate than us.

“Trials and tribulations will always accompany us in any form as long we are humans,” he added.

Malik also expressed his appreciation to His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor, Her Royal Highness the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Hajah Norashikin and His Royal Highness the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah for their support throughout his life journey and efforts to make a change.

He said the continued support from various parties had not only been meaningful to him, but had also strengthened his confidence to continue sharing his story of change and inspiration with the public.

"This support means a lot and boosts my confidence to continue sharing inspiring stories of change with everyone,”he said.

At the same event, Malik also received recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records as the first Malaysian to successfully complete a PhD while serving a prison sentence.
