SHAH ALAM, Sept 10 – A knee injury did not stop Selangor para tenpin bowler Nadia Syafika Abdul Rahman from giving her best as she helped the team win gold in the Trios - TPB8 + TPB9 + TPB10 Open event at the Selangor 2026 Malaysia Para Games (SUKMA).
Selangor emerged champions with a total of 2,325 pin falls, finishing 311 pins ahead of Pahang in the event.
She said the gold medal had been the team’s target after undergoing two years of preparation for the Games.
"Today, we were aiming for gold. Praise be to God, today we got the gold. We are very, very grateful," she said.
Nadia said she had to endure pain from a knee injury after competing consecutively over the three days of the tournament, but chose to continue competing.
"I'm not feeling too well because I have an injury, but my teammates really gave their best. Their support is really good and boosts my spirits a lot," she said.
She said the strong camaraderie between her and her teammates, Amin and Rosheedey, also helped them deliver their best performance, with each playing a role and supporting one another throughout the competition.
On their preparations, Nadia said the team had undergone two years of training, with morning and evening sessions held in preparation for Para SUKMA.
The success also contributed to the Selangor contingent’s strong performance, with the team collecting seven gold, five silver and two bronze medals in the tenpin bowling event at Para SUKMA Selangor 2026.
Nadia, who is making her fifth appearance at SUKMA, said the condition of her right leg, which has been bent since birth, had never stopped her from remaining active in the sport.
She also expressed her appreciation for her family’s support since she started bowling at the age of 10.
