SHAH ALAM, Sept 10 — Selangor para athlete Muhamad Rafiuddin Mohamad Hisham bounced back from disappointment to claim two gold medals in the T11 long jump and 100m T11 events at the 2026 Malaysia Para Games (Para SUKMA).
He said the victories were particularly meaningful after his participation in the 200m T11 event was cancelled a day earlier.
“I’m very happy because I managed to make up for the disappointment after my participation in the 200m event was cancelled.
“Today, I managed to bounce back and break the records in both events,” he said yesterday.
Rafiuddin said the achievement came while he was still recovering from an injury sustained several weeks before the Games began.
“I could still feel the pain while competing, but my coach and everyone else encouraged me to keep going,” he said.
Rafiuddin said his initial target was only to win gold in the long jump based on his previous record, but he surpassed his expectations by adding another gold in the 100m T11 event.
The visually impaired athlete also faces challenges travelling to training venues, but the independence instilled in him from a young age has helped him overcome them.
He said his experience living in a hostel built his confidence to travel independently, including taking public transport to training when his guide was unable to pick him up.
Rafiuddin dedicated his success to his parents and family, who have always provided him with moral support and motivation.
He hopes to continue improving his performance and achieve greater success in his career.
