SHAH ALAM, Sept 9 — Selangor have reached their 60-gold target for Para SUKMA, said state executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi, with victories in seven sports and the swimming team alone contributing 22 gold.
This is followed by para athletics (21), para chess (six), para tenpin bowling (four), para lawn bowls (three), para table tennis (two) and para archery (two).
“With one day remaining before Selangor Para SUKMA ends, I hope state para athletes remain focused and continue to do their best in all their events,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Given the state’s consistent performance shown so far, Najwan said the Selangor contingent could emerge overall champions this year.
Para SUKMA, which runs until September 10, features 369 events across 10 sports — swimming, athletics, badminton, table tennis, tenpin bowling, lawn bowls, archery, chess, boccia and powerlifting.
At SUKMA last month, Selangor were crowned overall champions after collecting 245 medals — 101 gold, 73 silver, and 71 bronze. The Federal Territories finished second with 51 gold, 54 silver and 52 bronze, while Terengganu came third with 43 gold, 44 silver and 36 bronze.
