SHAH ALAM, Sept 8 – Selangor’s swimming squad has delivered an impressive performance at the Para Malaysia Games (Para SUKMA) 2026.
The impressive performance by the swimming squad also earned praise from Batu Tiga assemblyman Danial Al Rashid Haron.
After visiting the athletes at the Shah Alam Aquatic Centre today, Danial said the squad’s performance so far was highly commendable and had met the targets set.
He said Ahmad Darwish Irfan’s achievement of three gold medals, along with breaking a national record, was among the state contingent’s most notable accomplishments.
“Alhamdulillah, I had the opportunity to discuss the matter with the management of the Selangor Para Swimming Association, and they informed me that the athletes have performed very well and successfully achieved their targets.
“I am also proud that one of our athletes has already won three gold medals and broken a national record.
“I hope he can add another gold on the final day to complete all the events he is competing in,” the state assemblyman said.
Danial also hoped the athlete’s achievements would see him considered for the Para SUKMA Sportsman of the Games award.
He said physical or intellectual disabilities should not prevent athletes with disabilities (OKU) from proving their abilities in sports.
Danial also added that family support, particularly from parents, played an important role in building athletes’ confidence and determination to continue competing.
“I saw that the parents and families have given very strong support. That alone is enough to give them the encouragement to fight in this Para SUKMA,” he said.
Danial said opportunities to participate in sports have empowered athletes with disabilities to build better lives and brighter futures.
He also called on the public, particularly Shah Alam residents, to attend competition venues and show their support for Selangor athletes who were still competing.
“We should give them praise and support while there are still several days left. I hope the people of Shah Alam can come and show their support for Selangor athletes,” he said.
To date, the Selangor Para SUKMA contingent has collected 18 gold medals in swimming and 37 gold medals overall.
