SHAH ALAM, Sept 8 – Enforcement action against water pollution cases must be supported by comprehensive investigations, strong evidence and close cooperation between agencies to ensure a more effective prosecution process.
State executive councillor for public health and environment Jamaliah Jamaluddin said the matter was among the focuses of a briefing session on the study of water pollution prosecution cases organised by the Selangor Water Management Board (LUAS) together with the Selangor State Prosecution Office.
Jamaliah said the session provided an opportunity for relevant agencies to examine areas for improvement based on previous water pollution prosecution cases.
She added that the study covered aspects of investigation, evidence and law enforcement in an effort to strengthen the protection of the state’s water resources.
"In an effort to protect the state's water resources, effective enforcement action must be supported by comprehensive investigations, strong evidence and close cooperation between all relevant agencies," she said in a Facebook post.
Jamaliah also expressed hope that the session would strengthen enforcement capabilities and serve as a platform for knowledge sharing to ensure that Selangor’s water resources continue to be preserved for the benefit of the people and environmental sustainability.
Also present at the briefing were principal assistant director of the River Basin and Coastal Management division, who carries out the duties of LUAS director Haslina Amer; Selangor State Prosecution Director Azlina Rasdi; and Department of Chemistry Malaysia Environmental Quality division director Dr Malarvili Ramalingam.
