Smog blankets Selangor as API readings climbs at 11am

SHAH ALAM, Sept 6 — Six areas in Selangor record unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) reading according to the Department of Environment’s Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) as of 11am today. 

The portal said Johan Setia recorded the highest API reading at 180, followed by Shah Alam at 168.

Petaling Jaya and Banting both recorded readings of 157, while Kuala Selangor and Klang recorded 155 each.

An API reading of 0 to 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are classified as hazardous.

At the national level, Sarawak recorded the highest number of affected areas nationwide, with 12 locations recording unhealthy or very unhealthy air quality.

Two areas in Sarawak recorded “very unhealthy” air quality as at 11am today, with Sri Aman registering an Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of 217 and Kuching 216.

Other areas in the state included Samalaju (199), Bintulu (197), Mukah (192), Samarahan (191), Sarikei (188), IPD Serian (183), ILP Miri (181) and Sibu (180).

The portal also recorded 35 areas that were classified as “unhealthy” and 23 as “moderate.”
