SHAH ALAM, Sept 4 — A dispute over seats is believed to have prompted a man to cause a commotion that led to pushing and shoving during the National Day celebrations at Dataran Putrajaya on Monday.
Putrajaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Aidi Sham Mohamed said investigations into the case had been completed and the investigation papers were now with the deputy public prosecutor (DPP) for further action, Sinar Harian reported.
“Seven witness statements have been recorded to assist in the investigation.
“The incident is believed to have been caused by a dispute over seats,” he said.
The incident occurred at about 5 am as members of the public waited for the entrance to the public seating area to open.
The man allegedly barged into and pushed members of the crowd, triggering a commotion that caused several people to fall.
Footage of the incident subsequently went viral on social media, including clips showing a man in a brown shirt allegedly provoking police officers on duty.
The 30-year-old suspect, who works as a cook, surrendered at the Putrajaya district police headquarters at about 12.15 am on Wednesday and was subsequently remanded for a day.
His urine test also returned positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) before he was released on police bail after his remand expired.
The case is being investigated under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
