Police hunt man accused of provoking National Day crowd

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 2 — Police have urged a man suspected of causing a disturbance during Monday’s 2026 National Day celebrations at Dataran Putrajaya to turn himself in at the Putrajaya District Police Headquarters to assist investigations.

Putrajaya police chief ACP Aidi Sham Mohamed said police have received four reports regarding the incident so far.

He said police detected a two-minute, 18-second video uploaded to Facebook by an account named ‘Anwar Captain Goose’, showing a man wearing an orange or brown shirt who is believed to have provoked the disturbance.

“He barged through and shoved members of the public who were waiting for the seating area gates to open, causing a scuffle that resulted in several people falling.

“The incident is believed to have occurred at 5 am on August 31,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Aidi Sham urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward to assist investigations.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.

Footage that went viral on social media showed a man attempting to climb over a perimeter fence to enter the seating area during the 69th National Day celebration at Dataran Putrajaya on Monday.
