GOMBAK, Aug 27 — A thousand childcare providers will be trained under the Early Childhood Care and Education Caretaker (IMPAK) Selangor programme this year, said Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor (YAWAS) chief executive officer Gan Pei Nei.
“IMPAK Selangor was established to empower caregivers with knowledge, skills and confidence, especially in the aspects of (cleanliness, health and safety),” she said in her speech at the closing ceremony for IMPAK Selangor’s Child Development Intensive Course, at Mercure Selangor Selayang, on August 23.
She added that a caregiver’s duties involve keeping children safe, helping them with emotional development and shaping their identities, and encouraging them to learn from an early age, on top of providing basic care.
She also said sufficient knowledge and preparations are important as many untoward incidents in a caregiving situation could be prevented with high awareness and good monitoring.
Gan explained that Selangor would provide RM2,000 grants to 100 participants for them to improve their offerings and facilities, with recipients to be chosen based on their commitment shown during the course, their level of participation, their facilities’ conditions, and their proposed improvements.
According to her, the IMPAK Selangor secretariat will inspect each site to ensure the aid reaches only those who are truly eligible.
“This grant is just a RM2,000 figure; it is an opportunity to establish childcare spaces that are safer, more comfortable, and more conducive to children’s development,” Gan said.
