SHAH ALAM, Aug 27 — The Selangor government under Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari is open to exploring cooperation with any party genuinely seeking to contribute to the state’s stability, development and people’s well-being.
Political secretary to the menteri besar Saifuddin Shafi Muhammad said, however, the state government’s priority now was to continue governing, working and delivering the best possible services to the people.
“I take note of current political developments, including the statement by Bersatu Youth chief Muhammad Hilman Idham regarding the possibility of political cooperation in Selangor, as well as developments in Pahang involving the support of two Bersatu assemblymen for the leadership of the Pahang menteri besar.
“The Selangor government under the leadership of the menteri besar has no issue with exploring any form of cooperation with any party that genuinely wishes to contribute to the stability, development and well-being of the people of this state.
“The state government’s door is always open. However, any understanding or cooperation must have clear common ground, be built on sincerity and ultimately deliver direct benefits to the people of Selangor, particularly communities in the state constituencies involved,” he said in a statement.
Saifuddin, however, urged all parties to avoid premature speculation over any political realignment or the formation of a new coalition involving Pakatan Harapan in Selangor.
He said the menteri besar had previously expressed openness to working with any party on the basis of political stability and the people’s interests, but there had yet to be any serious or formal discussions on the matter.
“The state government’s priority now is to continue governing, working and providing the best possible services to the people. Attention should be focused on preparations for the Selangor 2027 Budget.
“This budget is far more important to the people because it will determine the direction of the state’s development, public welfare programmes and the priorities of the Selangor administration for the coming year.
“Politics can be discussed when the time comes. Today, the people want the government to work, solve their problems and ensure the state’s development continues to move forward,” he said.
Saifuddin added that if any party sincerely wished to support that agenda, the door was always open for discussions.
Commenting on the political situation in Pahang, he said the support shown by the two assemblymen demonstrated that political differences did not necessarily prevent parties from reaching an understanding when the people’s interests and administrative stability were given priority.
“The Bersatu leadership’s endorsement of the two assemblymen’s support proves that there is always room to explore cooperation across political lines when there is a clear foundation and shared objective,” he said.
Yesterday, Kuala Sentul assemblyman Dato’ Jasri Jamaluddin and Lepar assemblyman Mohd Yazid Mohd Yunus announced that they would continue supporting the leadership of Pahang Menteri Besar Dato’ Sri Diraja Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail until the 16th state election.
In a statement, they said the position had been agreed upon by the Bersatu leadership, taking into account the need to ensure political stability in Pahang and safeguard the welfare of residents in both constituencies.
Following the announcement, Muhammad Hilman said a similar situation could emerge in Selangor, adding that he did not rule out the possibility of two Bersatu assemblymen supporting Amirudin’s administration until the end of its term.
