SHAH ALAM, Aug 25 — Ten students from Hulu Selangor have achieved an impressive feat by securing first place in the Best Overall Future City category during the recent Petaling Jaya International Youth Leadership Camp (PJIYLC) 2026.
They won with a project entitled 'Urban Planning, Play, and Leisure: Designing a City Through the Eyes of Children', featuring a future city model developed based on the 'Green City' concept.
“This achievement is very encouraging as the participants not only had the opportunity to showcase their creativity and ideas, but also translate the younger generation’s perspective on how a future city should be planned to be greener, more sustainable, inclusive, and community-friendly,” the Hulu Selangor Municipal Council (MPHS) said on Facebook.
It added that the concept considered key aspects of urban development, including environmental sustainability, urban planning, the provision of recreational spaces, community well-being, and the needs of future generations.
PJIYLC 2026, which runs from Saturday (August 22) to Friday (August 28), is jointly organised by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), the Malaysian Institute of Planners (MIP) Youth Wing, and UNICEF, and involves participants from Malaysia and abroad.
The programme also brings together delegations from Petaling Jaya’s Friendship City network, including Asan and Seongbuk-gu in South Korea, Miyoshi in Japan, Qingyuan in China, and Bandung, Indonesia.
