SHAH ALAM, Nov 3 — The Hulu Selangor Municipal Council (MPHS) recently reinforced its sustainable town development agenda by participating in the United Nations Forum of Mayors in Geneva, Switzerland, on October 12 and 13.
It said its forum, themed “Cities Delivering for a Sustainable Future”, was a platform for it to share local perspectives and explore sustainable urban development approaches with representatives from 85 cities all over the world.
“The forum, held at the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) from October 12 to 16, gathered around 400 participants including city, government, international organisation, and civil society leaders,” it said, adding that MPHS was represented by its president Julaihah Jamaludin and its Urban Planning Department director Azlina Mokhtar.
“Julaihah was given the opportunity to join several forum sessions throughout the programme,” MPHS said in a Facebook post yesterday.
It also said Julaihah was a panellist on a session titled “Women Mayors: Empowering Urban Leadership for a Sustainable Future”, where she shared her views on female leadership, governance, and inclusive and sustainable urban development.
She was also a moderator in the “Sustainable, Sufficient and Affordable Housing” session with Bristol City Council’s Tony Dyer, which focused on efforts to provide quality homes.
Julaihah also joined the “VLRs (Voluntary Local Reviews) as a Process and Pathway to Implementation” session, which discussed VLRs’ role in assessing the progress, planning and execution of UN Sustainable Development Goals at the local level.
MPHS said its participation in the Forum of Mayors helped it network with international city and organisation leaders and obtain input on strengthening the Hulu Selangor VLR, its SDG Roadmap, and the MPHS Strategic Plan 2024-2028.
It added that this is in line with MPHS’ aspiration to make Hulu Selangor a smart, sustainable and dynamic city while improving community well-being and service delivery quality.
