SHAH ALAM, Aug 25 — The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj has expressed his delight at the outstanding achievement of the Selangor Contingent, which won 101 gold medals to be crowned overall champions of the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA).
His Royal Highness had followed the Games throughout the competition and was deeply moved to witness the commitment, discipline, and strong fighting spirit demonstrated by the athletes.
“Selangor successfully dominated various events and collected 245 medals overall. Even more proudly, this was the highest gold-medal tally in SUKMA history since its inception in 1986.
“To the Selangor athletes who won gold medals, I extend my congratulations. To the silver and bronze medallists, never give up.
“Continue your efforts and improve your performance so that you can excel even further in the future, while bringing glory to Selangor in the national and international sporting arena,” said the Sultan in a statement posted on the Selangor Royal Office’s Facebook page.
The Ruler also expressed the hope that sporting events such as SUKMA will continue to serve as an important platform for fostering the sporting spirit while strengthening unity and harmony among the people of diverse races and religions.
“Indeed, success in sport is not measured solely by medals and championships, but is also reflected in the spirit of togetherness that can unite the people regardless of their backgrounds,” said Sultan Sharafuddin.
Selangor was crowned SUKMA 2026 champions after 11 days of fierce competition on home soil, with 368 gold medals.
The achievement saw the state contingent claim the overall title for the 10th time after collecting 245 medals, comprising 101 gold, 73 silver, and 71 bronze.
The Federal Territories finished second with 51 gold, 54 silver, and 52 bronze, while Terengganu took third place with 43 gold, 44 silver, and 36 bronze.
