SHAH ALAM, Aug 11 — Akuatik Selangor is now equipped with one of the country's most advanced regenerative water filtration technologies for the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA).

The facility, formerly known as the Darul Ehsan Aquatic Centre, has undergone upgrades to its technology and supporting facilities to meet the requirements of hosting the Games.

Akuatik Selangor manager Ahmad Sayuti Bashiron said the filtration technology operates automatically and can help reduce electricity and water consumption.

"Our system is the most advanced in Malaysia, and not every country uses this technology. It also excites athletes about swimming here," he told Media Selangor.

In addition to the filtration technology, the facility is equipped with a new timing system capable of recording competition results with millisecond accuracy.

"This timing system is among the most advanced, and its accuracy is extremely important for high-level competitions," Sayuti said.

Underwater cameras have also been installed to record competition action for replays, with the equipment meeting the requirements for hosting Olympic-level competitions.

"The dimensions of the main pool were also rechecked to ensure that it measures exactly 50m, while the pool size meets the requirements for Olympic-level competitions," he said.

In terms of capacity, Akuatik Selangor can accommodate up to 3,760 spectators at any one time throughout the Games.

The upgrading works, which began in October last year and were fully completed in June, also covered the pool and pumping systems, seating, lighting, toilets, media room, and supporting amenities.

The venue will begin hosting SUKMA and Para SUKMA aquatic events with the water polo competition tomorrow, ahead of its official opening on Saturday (August 15).

The amenities and technology available also give Akuatik Selangor the potential to host international competitions after SUKMA 2026.
